There are three types of nafs*:  1.al-nafs al-ammara,  2.al-nafs al-lawwama and  3.al-nafs al-mutma’inna 1.al-nafs al-ammara The nafs al-ammara is dominated by inner desires, self-satisfaction and immediate gratification — “The human soul is certainly prone to evil” (12:53) — namely, greed, power and dominance without regard for right or wrong, justice or inequity. It seeks the pleasures of this world and embraces such characteristics as self-admiration and self-praise, arrogance and pride, lying, gossip and backbiting, envy and jealousy, criticism, dissatisfaction, selfishness, greed and love of self. Any individual is urged to control such desires by treating others with humility, respect, dignity and similar qualities. पञ्च सूना गृहस्थस्य चुल्ली पेषण्युपस्करः ।  कण्डनी चोदकुम्भश्च बध्यते यास्तु वाहयन् ॥ अर्थात् गृहस्थी, अपने गृह कर्म करते हुए, निश्चित रूप से पांच प्रकार से हिंसा करता है । इन हिंसाओं के स्थान हैं – चूल्हा, चक्की, झाड़ू, ओखली और पानी का घड़ा । यहां हिंसा इस प्रकार होती है – खाना पकाते हुए, कोई-न-कोई छोटे कीड़े-मकौड़े आग का शिकार हो ही जाते हैं; इसी प्रकार, चक्की, झाड़ू, ओखली में भी क्षुद्र कृमि-कीटों की हत्या हो जाती है; पानी के उबालने, आदि, में भी हम किसी-न-किसी बैक्टीरिया, आदि, को अवश्य मारते हैं । इस प्रकार, अपने दैनिक जीवन में, गृहस्थ, न चाहते या जानते हुए भी, कई हिंसाएं कर जाता है । जबकि ये हिंसाएं अन्य आश्रमों में भी होती होंगी, ये कर्म मुख्य रूप से गृहस्थी ही करता है । अन्य व्यापार-सम्बन्धी कर्मों में भी व्यावहारिक मनुष्य इसी प्रकार जाने-अनजाने में जीव-जन्तुओं को चोट पहुंचाता रहता है । सो, जबकि एक ब्रह्मचारी भी अपने पैरों के नीचे अवश्य ही चींटी को कुचलता है, परन्तु किसान के हल से अधिक हत्या होती है । इन कारणों से, प्रायश्चित्त के रूप में, गृहस्थ को नि...

साल के किस  महीने में क्या न खाएं… चैते  गुड़, वैशाखे तेल, जेठ के पंथ, अषाढ़े बेल। सावन साग, भादो मही, कुवांर करेला, कार्तिक दही। अगहन जीरा, पूसै धना, माघै मिश्री, फाल्गुन चना। जो कोई इतने परिहरै, ता घर बैद पैर नहिं धरै। जनवरी-फरवरी : जनवरी और फरवरी में मिश्री ।  मार्च-अप्रैल : इस समय गुड़ ।  अप्रैल-मई :  तेल व तली-भुनी चीजें ।  मई-जून : इन महीनों में गर्मी का प्रकोप रहता है अत: ज्यादा घूमना-फिरना स्वास्थ्य के लिए हानिकारक है। जून-जुलाई : हरी सब्जियों के सेवन से बचें।  जुलाई-अगस्त : दूध व दूध से बनी चीजों के साथ ही हरी सब्जियां भी न खाएं।  अगस्त-सितंबर: छाछ, दही ।  सितंबर-अक्टूबर : करेला  अक्टूबर-नवंबर : दही और दही से बनी अन्य चीजें ।  नवंबर: दिसंबर : इस समय में भोजन में जीरे का उपयोग नहीं करना चाहिए।  दिसंबर-जनवरी : इन दोनों माह में धनिया नहीं खाना चाहिए क्योंकि धनिए की प्रवृति ठंडी मानी गई है और सामान्यत: इस मौसम में बहुत ठंड होती है। किस माह में क्या खाएं या करें? चैत चना, बैसाखे बेल, जैठे शयन, आषाढ़े खेल, सावन, ...

क्यूँ  ज्ञातव्य है ,कि जीवन में हमारा उद्देश्य क्या हो ? न जाने , सतत संघर्षरत ,इस ज़िंदगी का पक्ष क्या हो ?  संभव है; राह, जो अनिश्चित और अगम हैं   जान पड़ती ,  किसी मंज़िल की राह हो, जहां हमें  ज़िंदगी हो  खींचती सी |  पीड़ाएं  भी  हैं  होतीं, अर्थपूर्ण और तर्कसंगत , जीने की इसी  कला को ,सब हैं त्याग कहते ; न जाने, सब  नियति का कोई खेल  भर हो , और  वृथा ही हम  लोग इतना सोचते हों    |  परिस्थति के भँवर से ,जीवन हमें ही,  निरंतर पूछता है , निमित कर्म और चरित्र की स्याही से हमें साकारता है |  मुमकिन  है, जीवन में सभी के,असंख्य चुनौतियां हों ; उज्व्वल कोई अवसर ,इन्हीं में,  हमको  को  ढूंढना है |  विपदा में  अवसर  का हुनर, जो हम सब प्राप्त कर लें ; क्यूँ  सोचना वृथा फिर, कि  हमारा उद्देश्य क्या हो ? व्यक्ति और  समय विशेष पर भी, है बहुत कुछ  निर्भर  ; क्यूँ सोचना फिर कि  जीवन  का  ध्र...

सच कहूं तो वेदांत या भारतीय दर्शन पर कुछ बोलने या लिखने के लिए मैं अपने  आप को बड़ा अनुभवहीन और छोटा पाता हूँ, मगर जो कुछ भी थोडा बहुत समझ पाया हूँ , उसके आधार पर मैं यह कह सकता हूँ कि दर्शन का शाब्दिक अर्थ देखना या खोजना है| प्राचीन भारतीय ज्ञान या दर्शन  स्वयं और ब्रह्म की खोज और उसके अंतर्संबंध के बोध का साधन है | बात अगर स्वयं के दर्शन की हो तो वेद ,पुराण ,उपनिषद एक दर्पण हैं और जो भी हम इसमें देखेंगे वह सापेक्ष होगा और चूँकि हर व्यक्ति अलग है तो उसका दर्शन भी अलग ही होगा| प्राचीन भारतीय ज्ञान या दर्शन की सभी व्याख्याएं तर्कसंगत, सापेक्ष और एक दुसरे से एकदम पृथक हो सकती हैं लेकिन इसकी एक सार्वभौमिक और पूर्ण व्याख्या नहीं हो सकती| सार्वभौमिक से यहाँ तात्पर्य ऐसी व्याख्या से है जो सबके लिए एक हो और स्थिर हो । वेदांत दर्शन में जड़ता के लिए कोई जगह नहीं है। यह तो बड़ी ही गतिशील ( dynamic) और प्रगतिशील (progressive) विषयवस्तु है | इसी को ऋग्वेद में " एकं सद् विप्रा बहुधा  वदन्ति  " (1.164.46)  इसका शाब्दिक अर्थ है "सत्य एक है, ज्ञानी इसे अलग तरह ...
