Dear God, It's Complicated!

Dear God, I thank you for it all,
The rising sun, the rain that falls.
The trees, the birds, the skies above,
The gift of life, the gift of love.

I see your blessings everywhere,
And feel your presence in the air.
But I see pain in every land,
And wonder if it's in your hands.

I pity you, if you must see,
Your children suffer helplessly.
If karma sets the rules of life,
Can you not save them from their strife?

Sometimes I am angry with you,
For all the things that people go through.
So much of pain, so much of loss,
So many lives that bear the cost.

My love is deep, my pity strange,
My anger strong, beyond its range.
Yet I cannot walk away from you,
Despite my questions, old and new.

But there is one thing I fear the most,
Not your anger, nor your wrath.
I fear that you may not exist,
And we are all alone on this path.

For if you are not there above,
Then who holds this world with love?
Who answers for the pain we see?
And who bears all responsibility?

I don't fear you, dear God, it's true,
I only fear a world without you.
For what a weight would fall on me,
If there were no one beyond humanity.

I love you, question you, get angry too,
And still, I cannot walk away from you.

Dear God, it's complicated.
Perhaps that's just how I love you.
